The airline said that the Heathrow-bound route would launch at the beginning of the commencement of summer schedules in the northern hemisphere on 25 March, 2012, bringing the carrier’s number of weekly flights to Heathrow to 35. Qatar officials also said that schedules had been adjusted to allow for more convenient connection times for passengers travelling between Asia and Europe via its hub airport in Doha.
The new flight, QR075, is scheduled to depart Doha daily at 0635 local time and will arrive at Heathrow at 1200 BST. The flight will then depart Heathrow at 1600 BST as flight QR076 and will return to Qatar at 0050 local time the next day. The new service will utilise Qatar’s flagship Boeing 777 wide-body jets, which feature 42 business class flat-laying beds and 217 economy seats.
Akbar Al-Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways said the new route reflects the importance of the British capital for his carrier and added that the new service comes just in time for the London 2012 Olympic games. He went on to say that it would allow for “greater connectivity” for passengers travelling between London and destinations such as Delhi, Bangkok, Bali, Melbourne and Islamabad.
