The results come via Gala Bingo, whose recent study showed that 45 per cent of Britons have visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris, whereas only 36 per cent have been to the UK's own Buckingham Palace.
The survey also showed that about the same amount of Britons have been to New York’s statue of Liberty (21 per cent) and Hadrian’s Wall (20 per cent), despite the fact that the American Landmark is several thousands of miles further from home. And about a fifth of respondents (18 per cent) said that they haven’t seen any top UK landmarks, including Stonehenge, Blackpool Tower and the Houses of Parliament.
Around 84 per cent of the 1,000 Britons surveyed said that holidays abroad were more attractive than those at home due to poor weather, bad public transport and fewer ‘new experiences' in the UK.
And surprisingly, Londoners were the least experienced with visiting UK tourist destinations; more than half (58 per cent) said they hadn’t even been to Buckingham Palace in spite of its close proximity and international recognition.
Galabingo.com’s Danny Mahon said that the survey showed Britons are likely to stay in while at home and enjoy better weather in other parts of the world. He added that this wasn’t likely to change in the near future.
