Flight bans to be lifted
Airlines could be flying by mid morning
Airport news for Travel on 19/04/2010.
The outright ban on flights will be relaxed by as early as 6am when the airspace around Scotland is opened to flights. British Airways will begin flying from London at around 7pm and from the South in general from 6pm.
There are currently around 150,000 travellers trying to fly back to the UK after holidays and trips abroad. Most airlines will need to deal with a logistical nightmare as they get to grips with their crews locations and the whereabouts of aircraft needed to co ordinate the mass of passengers expected to arrive in the UK.
All airports have urged passengers to ring their airline before they turn up for flights with travel experts expecting the situation to take at least two weeks before it returns to normal. Three Royal Navy ships have been deployed to rescue people stuck in Spain and France.
