Aviation officials have once again decided the best course of action would be to close the skies to any non essential flights across Britain.

Only a handful of flights have got off the ground in the North in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England. Any flights today look to be limited to eastern Scotland.

Manchester Airport, which was due to open, will remain closed until further notice; Glasgow Airport which had opened was due to close at 1pm.

All airports in the south will remain closed until at least 7pm this evening. British Airways have had to abandon their plans to re open routes as a new ash cloud appeared to be making itself known and headed for the skies above the UK. Three craters have been seen to erupt in Iceland.

The Met Office has said that the conditions are set to worsen in some areas as the volcano continues to spew out ash with strong winds blowing the clouds towards the UK more quickly than the clouds after the first eruption.
