A massive 40 million travellers are expected to flood into South Africa in 2010 with the majority of visitors flying into one of the three main airports during June for the biggest competition in the football calendar. As well as the World Cup, tourist numbers are predicted to rise and airports are renovating and upgrading in preparation.
The O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is enjoying a hike in its security project by adding a total of 650 video surveillance cameras around the international and domestic terminals. They are using a mixture of fixed cameras, mini domes and DVTel IP PTZ domes that are good value and offer high quality images.
These cameras will be used for a wide range of things from watching over car parks to security usage in the main terminals. Immigration will be a particularly hectic space and a DVTel SceneTracker will be used to keep track of the area. It will also be deployed in the docking bays of the aircrafts and the whole system is a welcomed addition to the newly security conscious airport.
“Airport management was very clear that everything for security was going to IP technology and it needed to go on the IT infrastructure,” said David Petrook, DVTel Managing Director for EMEA.
