British Airways has launched series of measures including a first-time opportunity for discount economy ticket holders to earn Executive Club tier points.

The airline has said these changes to the Executive Club rules would be permanent, and have been introduced after members expressed these measures as being on the top of their wish list. With the revised rules, economy travellers will find it easier to climb up the more exclusive ranks of British Airway's loyalty scheme.

Existing Gold and Silver Executive Club members will also benefit, as it will be easier to maintain their status. These members are entitled to a range of benefits including access to around 150 lounges at airports around the world.

Under the scheme, travellers holding short haul (European destination) economy tickets will be awarded five tier points, while a long haul economy ticket will fetch 15 tier points.

In another promotion, travellers from Hong Kong who book British Airway's Club World business class will enjoy a free upgrade to First class, for one leg of their European journey. To avail of this scheme, customers require to book before midnight September 30 this year. The offer is valid for travel undertaken before March 31 2010.

Club World is available on British Airways Boeing 747s plying the Hong Kong to London route. Introduced in 2007, the Club World sector features wider seats,a six-foot-six "Z" bed position and increased privacy.

British Airways First class boasts a turndown service, cotton sleeper suits, a-la-carte dining and access to the airline's £60 million Galleries lounge complex at Heathrow Terminal 5.
