After a man approached LAX security officers and told them he was a terrorist and was in possession of a bomb, he was arrested, authorities at the airport reported last week.

All roads leading to the central terminals were closed to traffic after the threat was made outside the Tom Bradley International Terminal. When bomb squad officers from the LA Police Department examined the bag they found that it contained ‘junk’ and was not potentially explosive.

Traffic flow to the international terminal was disrupted for a few hours, but traffic to north-side terminals 1 and 2, and to terminals 5, 6, 7, and 8, was not affected by the incident.

Departures from the international terminal and terminals 3 and 4 were delayed, officials said. Early reports had indicated that schedules would not be delayed, but six flights experienced delays because passengers could not reach their gates on time.

A passenger bound for Toronto, Kevin Andurs, commented that his flight was scheduled to depart at 12:30, but that he said missed the flight because of the ‘mile-long lines’ that resulted from the bomb scare.

William Petersen, a television actor on the show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," was waiting for his American Airlines flight to leave, while police were investigating the security threat. He said that most travelers appeared calm.
