Mick Skee, whose legs were amputated in 2006 as a result of his contracting meningococcal septicaemia, has said that Jet2.com is unwilling to waive their extra baggage fee on his extra pair of prosthetic legs, which he needs on his holiday to Majorca next year – although they did indicate that he could take a wheelchair at no additional charge.
Skee explained his dissatisfaction, saying: “In my opinion, the prosthetic legs are a disability aid. A wheelchair is classed as that and can be transported free of charge. It is ridiculous. The legs weigh less than a wheelchair, but I have been told that Jet2 is not prepared to budge.”
He added: “If I want to take a spare pair of prosthetics, I will have to pay an extra £10 for each way.”
The father of four is a resident of Wardley, Gateshead, who has said that he will send a letter of protest to officials at Jet2 and raise the issue with his local MP.
Skee’s comments continued: "After getting confirmation details, I contacted them to say I needed special assistance for transportation of prosthetic limbs. They e-mailed me for my medication condition and contacted Jet2, who in turn told them they were not prepared to transport the legs for free.”
