Latest figures show that Brits departing via Newcastle are more likely to take off on time. A staggering 82 per cent of flights departed on time during January to March beating all nationwide rivals on scheduled flights.

“This is excellent news for the airport, its airline partners and, of course, its passengers. It is testament to the considerable efforts and team-working of colleagues across the business that we are continuing to outperform our competitors in respect of the punctuality of our flights,” said Dave Laws, chief executive of Newcastle Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) also reported in the first quarter of 2009 that 85 per cent of charter flight had left on time, compared to just 68 per cent of the rest of the nation.

The busiest airport in the UK, Heathrow showed the greatest improvement when with 79 per cent of flights left on time, up from the same time last of just 59 per cent. London City Airport also greatly improved cutting their average delay time to just 9 minutes with 84 per cent of flights taking off on time.

The CAA monitors all flight departure times and it is worth remembering that on time to them is no more than 15 minutes late for takeoff.
