Experts have predicted a decline in seat capacity through December at airports serving the UK capital.

According to a report issued at the weekend by aviation data and analysis firm OAG, London’s airports – which include Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Gatwick and City – are set to see a decrease from numbers seen during the same year prior.

In contrast, OAG officials noted that hub cities in continental Europe are likely to see capacity numbers improve.

The report said that a decline of 2 per cent to 12.6 million is expected across the five London airports, whilst the two Paris gateways (Orly and Charles de Gaulle) are set to see an increase of 2 per cent as a result of growing competition in the French domestic market.

Likewise, Amsterdam is slated to fare better this year as well, according to the report. The Dutch hub is expected to expand by about 4 per cent thanks to growth via KLM’s European operations. Frankfurt on the other hand is set for a substantial decline of about 9 per cent; officials cited recent capacity reductions via the airport’s primary carrier Lufthansa.
