BA opens its new T5 lounges - Heathrow Airport News
Airport news for Heathrow on 25/03/2008.
Heathrow International Airport’s brand-new, squeaky-clean Terminal 5, after being officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last week has experienced a successful first week of operations, albeit without passengers.
With things like schedules and security running smoothly, the focus on the new Terminal 5, which was under so much pressure to deliver respite from the notorious delays and congestion at Heathrow, is more to do with the amenities and services available at the facility.
One of the first announcements on this front comes from flagship carrier British Airways, who have just unveiled their three new airport lounges in Terminal 5. The project began in 2003 with the airline hiring Davies & Baron to undertake the construction and design of the first class, club and executive lounges, whose 20,000 square metres of space can accommodate three thousand passengers and actually provide private bedrooms. David Davies explains some of the design choices by saying, ‘The brief was quite ‘blue sky’. BA asked us to think in very fresh terms about the galleries, so we decided to try to capture the best of British design and style. This translated into us using very traditional, luxurious fabrics’.
