Scotland’s largest airports saw substantial boosts in passenger totals last month, reports said this week.

Figures released early in the week by Edinburgh airport’s operating firm revealed that the gateway hosted about 950,000 passengers last month, marking the busiest ever June on record and a rise of 8.4 per cent from the previous year.

Likewise, Glasgow airport saw also saw a substantial boost over the 30-day period. International traffic grew by more than 5 per cent from the previous year, whilst the number of domestic business travellers climbed by about 5.7 per cent, according to a BBC report released midweek.

Glasgow airport managing director Amanda McMillan said in a statement that the fresh growth made it an “exciting time” for the airport.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen airport saw a comparable surge in business; the airport reported a year-on-year rise of 8 per cent for the month of June with more than 300,000 passengers passing through the facility.

Experts say the boost comes largely as a result of poor summer weather in much of northern Britain.
