Low-cost carrier Flybe is to launch a pair of new ski destination routes from UK airports.

Officials from the regional airline said last week that firm will begin operating scheduled flight between Inverness and Geneva for the 2013/14 winter season. In addition, the carrier will also add service from Southampton airport to Grenoble for the upcoming winter. Seats are on sale now for flights through mid February, according to an official press release.

Flybe also announced on Thursday that the airline is to increase frequencies on ski routes from a number of UK airports including East Midlands, Birmingham, Southampton, Jersey and Isle of Man. Likewise, ski flights as well as flights to Malaga and Alicante will be expanded from the firm’s Exeter hub.

Flybe UK’s managing director Andrew Strong said in a statement that he was pleased to announce the launch of the new Inverness-Geneva route, which he said highlights the airline’s commitment to providing more choices for travellers in the Highlands.

Similarly, Inverness airport manager Graeme Bell told the media that Geneva is a “perfect” ski holiday destination and that the new flight was a big step for the airport. Bell added that he hoped passengers would help to support the new route.
