Low-cost carrier EasyJet has expanded its route network from Southend airport.

Officials from the airline confirmed this week that the company has launched three new routes from the South East regional gateway.

The move brings the company’s total number of Southend routes to 15; newly available routes operate to Berlin, Newquay and Krakow. The three new flights are forecast to attract some 130,000 passengers each year, according to a Travel Weekly report published last week.

To accommodate the new flights, EasyJet is bringing a new aircraft to its Southend base, which will bring the total number of jets based at the airport to four.

Alastair Welch, managing director of Southend said in a statement that the airport’s ongoing relationship with EasyJet has been further solidified with the addition of a fourth aircraft.

Likewise, Easyjet’s commercial manager for UK operations Hugh Aitken told the media that there are now 180 flights available from the airport each week and that the new jet would help to ensure long-term, sustainable growth in the region.

Additional EasyJet destinations available from Southend include Belfast, Barcelona, Faro, Edinburgh, Venice, Malaga, Majorca, Ibiza and Alicante, among others.
