Revolution bringing in-flight wifi access to movies, TV show
A commercial and technological revolution will feed TV and movies to passengers’ own devices.

A revolutionary mix of technology and commercial deals is set to feed air passengers an expanding choice of commercial TV programmes and movies. Row 44, which supplies a broadband in-flight entertainment platform to airlines, has been busy signing distribution deals with some of the biggest names in Hollywood that will provide in-flight streaming access via travellers’ own wireless devices to live and on-demand entertainment programming.
The content deals will provide passengers with an ever-increasing library of on-demand video programming from which they can choose. All of the programmes will be made available over passengers’ own wifi devices.
Row 44 has recently signed content deals with Universal, Disney, Warner Brothers, FOX, BBC World News, MSNBC and CNBC, as well as the USA’s MLB AdvanceMedia, which will provide access to Major League Baseball games. Content will be available over everything from laptop computers and smart phones to tablets and internet slates.
TV series that will be made available include Glee, Friends, The Office, The Three Stooges and Modern Family. Movie buffs can choose to watch Harry Potter, Avatar, Toy Story, Inception or a range of classics from cinema great Alfred Hitchcock.
As Row 44’s Chief Commercial Officer Howard Lefkowitz was eager to point out, travellers are hoping for their journey to pass as quickly as it can and being able to provide a wide selection entertainment options helps ease the strain of travelling. Row 44’s combination of technology and distribution agreements means that passengers can enjoy live streaming television programmes and on-demand access to some of the most popular Hollywood films.
