The latest high-tech design for seat trays has been launched and it promises to revolutionise the cost-benefit formula for airlines. Not only does the TrayVu offer a cost-effective way for airlines to provide enhanced in-flight entertainment options for passengers but it does so using the powerful and increasingly popular android operating system from Google.

Created by Skycast Solutions, the TravVu uses an innovative combination of android-powered tablet computer and seat tray. The combination means airlines can provide passengers with slick in-flight entertainment without having to invest in expensive bespoke seat-back entertainment systems.

In a statement, Skycast CEO Bill Boyer spoke about how airlines have to deal with a difficult combination of the need to cut costs whilst simultaneously expanding ancillary revenues and maintaining on-board service without charging higher fees. He went on to highlight how the tech-savvy passenger of today expects a superior on-board experience.

The SkyCast TrayVu is the only in-flight entertainment (IFE) system integrated into the seat tray, an accomplishment for which the company is awaiting patents. Weighing in at less than two pounds for each seat, TrayVu is the lightest seat-centric IFE system on the market.

The TrayVu features a Samsung Galaxy internet tablet that runs on Google’s android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system (OS). The OS is highly-customisable and supports the Galaxy tablet’s touch-sensitive 8.9-inch screen.

Another nice benefit of the TrayVu is that it eliminates the ‘head-tapping’ issues associated with IFE systems installed in seat backs. In addition to video and audio content, the TrayVu supports games, shopping, special offers and even a ‘run-a-tab’ platform that lets passengers order food and drinks.
