Authorities in Tripoli, Libya have retrieved the ‘black box’ flight data recorders from the wreckage of an Airbus that killed 103 of the 104 people on board. The lone survivor is an eight-year-old boy from the Netherlands.

The Airbus A330 came down while on final approach to land in Tripoli. Among the 93 passengers were 62 Dutch tourists. Several travel firms in the Netherlands confirmed they had customers on the plane, which had just flown from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Rescue workers have so far retrieved the bodies of 96 victims, in addition to the flight data recorders, which will help investigators probing the cause of the crash. Libyan Transport Minister Mohamed Zeidan said there was no evidence that terrorism was involved. Passengers on the plane came from five European nations and a small number of countries elsewhere.

The Airbus A330 was powered by two General Electric engines and first flew on 12 August, last year. It was delivered new to Afriqiyah Airways on 8 September. This is the second crash in 12 months involving an A330 and manufacturer Airbus says it will give its “full technical assistance” to accident investigators.
