Scotland’s major airport saw one of the busiest summers on record, new figures have revealed.

Statistics released this week by Edinburgh airport showed that the capital gateway saw about 1.04 million passengers last month, marking a 10.6 per cent increase on the same month one year prior.

Similarly, nearly 1.1 million travellers passed through the airport during the month of July, whilst that facility has seen a year-on-year 2.6 per cent rise in total passenger figures over the last 12 months, according to the official report.

Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh airport’s chief executive, said in a statement that the summer has been “fantastic” thanks to record-breaking performance. He went on to add that he wished to thank the facility’s hard-working employees, as well as the airlines and other business partners involved in the ongoing effort.

Meanwhile, Glasgow airport saw a 6 per cent rise in total passengers to nearly 746,000 over the month of August. Officials said the improvement comes partly because of recent special events such as the UDO World Street Dance Championships and the World Pipe Band Championships.
