East Midlands named Airport of the Year at BTAs
East Midlands airport has won the top prize of UK Airport of the Year at the 2011 British Travel Awards.

The recognition came alongside the added prize of Best UK Regional Airport in London during the Gala Awards Dinner at the Battersea Evolution, which had some 1,000 travel industry representatives in attendance.
The event was held in conjunction with the Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands Airport’s grand opening and the two awards mark the third and fourth prize recognitions for the East Midlands facility in just three months. The recognitions were chosen by the British public after being shortlisted by industry officials.
Brad Miller, managing director for East Midlands airport, said that the past year had been exciting for his organisation and said that customers were at the heart of all its employees' efforts. He said that the facility’s staff would continue investing in an enhanced experience for customers.
BTA chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said to those on hand that Miller and his organisation very much deserved congratulations after winning the two top prizes among ‘fierce’ competition in 2011.
Thirteen other airports including Newcastle and Belfast were shortlisted for the regional prize whilst East Midlands beat out 17 others including Heathrow, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Gatwick for the Airport of the Year award.
