Moscow maintains the global top position in having the most expensive hotels

Moscow has taken the honor, for the fifth consecutive year, of having the world’s most expensive hotels, according to the latest HRG (Hogg Robinson Group) Survey.
The Russian capital was slightly affected by the current consequences of the economic dip with average room rates down on 2008 figures, but the figure of $ 420 per room per night is still considerably dearer than Abu Dhabi, which was second place with an average $ 350 per room. The rates for Moscow meant a plummet of around $ 50 on the 2008 average rates.
Organized by the international corporate travel company HRG, the survey discovered that standard room rates across the world were almost all down as hotel groups offered a range of discount deals to try to lure parsimonious consumers in the recession.
British travelers would not have been astounded by the latest statistics given that the continued plunge of the pound in 2009 meant that many global destinations were in fact more pricey last year than in the past for UK vacationers. According to the HRG discoveries, room rates for Abu Dhabi were actually up by $ 40 from 2008 while Washington (9th) and Geneva (7th) both increased.
New York, 3rd place, which prided itself an average rate of $ 340, saw a fall of up to 23% while London also faced a loss of around 5% but still placed well down the most expensive list at the 29th position with an average room rate of $ 225.
Paris found itself in the 4th place on the list ahead of Manama (Bahrain), Milan and Copenhagen with Athens rounding off the top 10,
